How To Communicate Your Allergy With A Medical Alert Bracelet

It’s World Allergy Week and this year the focus is on allergic eczema however allergies can present themselves in many ways. Some of the most common allergies are:

  • Food allergies – this can include dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, wheat, fish / shellfish (mostly found in adults), food colourings and flavourings among others.
  • Asthma – causes inflammation and swelling of the lungs and airways which can in turn lead to problems breathing and even fatality. Over 5 million people in the UK alone receive treatment for Asthma.
  • Atopic Dermatitis / Eczema – causes skin dryness, irritation and / or rash on the face or body. This can be due to use of soap, washing powders and detergents, genetics, certain material such as wool, hormonal changes, skin infections, environmental factors such as cold weather, dampness, dust mites, moulds, and pet fur. Food allergies can also trigger eczema symptoms.
  • Allergies to certain medications – these can include penicillin, Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen, painkillers such as Codeine and Morphine, anesthetics such as Suxamethonium and certain medications used in Chemotherapy treatment.

This list is not conclusive as there are lots of allergies which affect people day to day such as latex allergy, bee / wasp stings, and certain metals among many others. The severity of each person’s allergy is individual, some people may only have mild symptoms whereas for others their reaction can be severe, and sometimes life threatening.

Medical Alert Bracelet for Nut Allergy Allergic

Medical alert jewellery is so important for those with allergies, especially those that may be life threatening. If you do need emergency assistance it helps first responders identify what the issue is and get you the treatment you need more quickly.

For drug allergies it shows emergency and medical staff what medication you are unable to have, this is especially important if you are unable to speak and tell them this information yourself for any reason.

Have a browse at our medical jewellery, or why not choose one of our custom engraved options, which is perfect for those who have more specific allergies or want to add a name or phone number.
